A fine art exhibit featuring artistic interpretations of the American flag placed on the moon by Apollo 11 astronauts will open with a free reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, at Manatee Community College’s (MCC) new Fine Art Gallery. The gallery is located in building 11 North, adjacent to the Neel Performing Arts Center at MCC Bradenton, 5840 26th St. West.
The exhibit, “The Black Flag on the Moon,” which features work by 20 graphic artists from across the United States, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing and honors Bradenton resident Dolores Black who made the original flag. Black, who is also known as the “second Betsy Ross,” will attend the opening reception. Newspaper articles, photographs and artifacts chronicling the Apollo 11 landing also will be on display.
The exhibit continues through September 24. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information, call (941) 752-5225.
